An excellent read. Congrats for selling out! It makes me wonder how I'd do at something like that.

The trick to selling out is to bring only a few copies. Hee!

I saw that! Great strategy!

Oh my goodness, I can well imagine those people going to book events. I’ve been to quite a few years ago, and I usually found listening to some comments most hilarious. Second-hand book events are worse, the sellers sometimes don’t even know a thing about the books.

Well done on selling all books…doesn’t matter that you brought only a few, you sold them. Kudos for courage, keeping a stiff upper lip and staying put. 💙

Thanks very much!

Thanks for the advice. I'm not there yet but one of my greatest fears is having to do real life events. I much prefer to hide behind my computer where I don't have to look at people to get my point across.

I agree with you. Better to be at the keyboard. But for one insane moment I agreed to be there. The irony is that I can’t get the one bookstore in town, that prides itself on representing local authors, to respond to my messages about carrying my book. Sigh.

Frustrating!

For me, I think the negatives outweigh the positives. I won't be going anywhere near any similar events in the near future.

Or just be sure the organizers are a bit more "on their game" than these were. Sigh!

Very true! Yet, in my limited experience, most events here are for mainstream publishers only.

Ugh! Well, find other venues to market your work, then. Tough going out there. I was possibly the only author there that wasn't self-published.

Congrats on selling all your books! That can be quite the feat at events.

I've never done solely an author event, but I have done plenty of craft shows since I also knit. The knitting tends to sell better than books at those events, but it's exciting when I do sell books. The comments that always make me laugh and roll my eyes after the person leaves are when I'm told that "They don't read." after they pick up my books and examine them. I will also get a lot of people informing me they don't read the genre I write. I'm not sure if they're expecting me to pull out the genre they do read or what. I just smile and say that's fine, we all have different tastes and mine tend to be geared toward vampires.

It sounds like fun.

Thank you for the heads-up on this.

Panels don't have to be a drag, though- some of the ones at speculative fiction conventions can get rather interesting...

The drag part was few attendees, no questions from them, short timeframe, being away from our tables, and no real discussion (although I did try to spur some).

Hang in there! I've been told it gets better, lol! I like to do readings and visits with book club... mostly because I'm the only author there....

I passed this on to hubby. He said it was a great strategy. Woohoo!
