"trying to remember what she wrote in the book being discussed." so its not just me. ðĪŠð But how can you not remember what you wrote Wyatt? Uhh... because... Squirrel!!
Hi AC. It's a while since I've popped up in your comment section. You seem to be on form. As I subscribe to your substack, would you mind subscribing to mine? All subs are free.
I've been victim of "writer brain" before. On one podcast I answered the moderators question correctly except the answer applied to a previous book, not the one under discussion. :-(
Hee! Yeah, itâs probably pretty common. The group did ask about what I was working on. I droned on for several minutes. (Nobody nodded off during it, though, so Iâm hopeful.)
I'll add one more thing that just occurred to me this morning. Group members might have felt inhibited in speaking up about the book with me there. They might have been more open otherwise. Sort of like when someone's selling a house. They can't be there when buyers come to look around.
Good question. And I have given the matter some thought since that meeting. Have they read the book? Or are you just trying to promote it to them? It makes a big difference. If the latter, choose what you read carefully, something that will entice them to read more.
Sounds like a very different event. As for what Iâd do differently, I probably wouldnât have gone. For you, just stay calm and assume everyone likes you and wants to hear your stuff. Worked for me when I was in Toastmasters and also when I was teaching classes (how to use PCs when they first came out - yeah, Iâm that ancient).

Har! I worked out a new scene in another book during the meeting. (But don't tell anyone!)

Happy to. (Frankly, I thought I already was. Sigh. My brain's overloading.)
Thank you A.C. If you like it spread the word for me.

Great insights! Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope to use your great examples in the future!

Hope it goes well for you. And remember, everyoneâs a critic. Hee!
