My PI is definitely doing a ton of stuff I'm completely incapable of doing, including backing in a parking spot :)

You are right! Readers of my novels and short stories always ask me which character represents me in the stories. My usual answer is all of them and none of them. All of them show parts of me, but none of them are actually me. This is why writing stories is so much fun: I can allow my characters, somewhat similar to me, to explore many ways of living, many roads untraveled, and many situations handled differently than I would in real life. And yes, we writers have the privilege to go completely haywire if we want, living out even the most improbable events vividly in our minds. I guess it's not a professional hazard, but rather the professional delight... 😄
